Research interests

My research focuses on nestmate recognition and prosocial behavior in ants. The broad question is how ants use cognitive abilities in individual and in prosocial interactions. In other words, what are the basic mechanisms that drive these interactions.

These interests are perused in these areas: individual and social recognition, learning, aggressive-defensive behavior, prosocial and altruistic behavior especially rescue behavior, parental care in ants and also the role of learning in the coevolutionary predator-prey relationship between pit-digging larval antlions and ants with my colleague at Mount Holyoke College (USA).

Teaching

I teach in broad areas of biology and physiology for different levels of students pursuing either BSc of psychology (Licence) or Master of ethology. Topics include: bioethics, learning, neuropsychology of perception, emotional basis of learning, general ethology, adaptive behavior and coevolution.
